An energy magnate's estranged wife was awarded $184 million Monday in what appears to be one of the biggest divorce verdicts in U.S. history.
Citing irreconcilible differences, Maya Polsky, a 55-year-old homemaker and art gallery owner, filed for divorce from her husband, Michael Polsky, in 2003.
Judge William Boyd had ruled in October that Maya Polsky was entitled to half of the Chicago couple's cash and assets, with her share valued at $176 million. On Monday, the judge amended his decision to include previously omitted assets that increased the value of her award to $184 million.
The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) will host its international convention from June 10-17 in Hays, Kansas.
History will be explored from the time nearly 250 years ago when Catherine the Great induced about 25,000 “Germans” (which also included people from France, Denmark, Sweden and Poland) to migrate halfway around the world to settle in the Volga River Valley to the time 25 years later when almost 50,000 settled in the Black Sea region.
A mass grave holding the remains of thousands of Jews killed by the Nazis has been found in southern Ukraine near the site of what was once a concentration camp, a Jewish community representative said Tuesday.
The grave was found by chance last month when workers were preparing to lay gas pipelines in the village of Gvozdavka-1, near Odessa, said Roman Shvartsman, a spokesman for the regional Jewish community.
Police have laid conspiracy to commit murder charges against two teenaged girls after online threats against at least 15 students and teachers allegedly escalated into action in a small eastern Ontario town.
The 14- and 15-year-old girls face 15 counts of threatening in addition to the conspiracy charge.
Police won't reveal the exact nature of the threats, but they say the charge shows this is more than a case of cyber-bullying.
"It's beyond that, it's extremely serious," OPP Sgt. Kristine Rae told CTV Ottawa reporter Norman Fetterley in Odessa, about 15 kilometres west of Kingston.
