The famous Shakespeare statement "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players" found its great illustration in "The Lover" by Harold Pinter, directed by Aleksandr Liznenkov. Actors, as well as main characters, are constantly crossing the line between stage and real life. In the end, you might find yourself lost in this confusion.
Like Chekhov, some of Pinter's plays allow both a 'serious' and a 'comic' interpretation. "The Lover" has been successfully staged as an ironic comedy on the one hand and as a nervy drama on the other. As is often the case with Pinter, the play probably contains both. Come and see Theater U's presentation of "The Lover" for Lizhnekov's unique interpretation. Performed in Russian with English subtitles.
In celebration of Alexander Pushkin's 210th birthday Theatre U will present "Little Tragedies" on June 6 2009 at 7:00 PM and again on June 7 2009, 6:00 PM also at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.
